‘Dance on the Darkness' is a song that emerged from this collection; a meditation of the mysterious and ambiguous phenomenon of lighthouses that have always intrigued Sam. Dance on the darkness captures the light that dances in the wilderness of the seas. Lighthouses are the last frontier before the vastness of the seas, an “anchor in the wilderness of the stormy seas” as the lyrics go. In the song Sam draws from early childhood memories of creeping out of a hotel on the Isle of Man to spend the night watching the light from the Langness lighthouse illuminate the bay. There are also hints towards themes of pilgrimage, light and darkness, and inner awakening from Sufi mysticism, Buddhism, Judaism and Christianity.
