DURHAM - we're back. You missed us, we know. We may have missed you a little too.

Join us at Thorn for our stellar line-up of music, poetry and visual art as we return to the venue that launched us a year ago. It's an exhibition, it's a reading, it's a gig - it's a goddamn party. Don't say we don't spoil you.

Because we launched a year back (photographic evidence below), that makes this our first birthday (sort of), so it really would be rude not to - though hopefully the police won't be joining us this time.

Keep an eye out for announcements about the artists, musicians and poets we'll be featuring on the night here on our website and on our Facebook page, and check out our instagram for more of the same.

Described as 'Durham's hottest arts organisation' (by ourselves), Thorn exists to bring the arts together in the form of events, productions and online publication. Email admin@thorndurham.com to ask us about getting involved.

CONFIRMED ARTISTS

The night will see the launch of 'Afraid of the Light', the stunning new EP from singer-songwriter {REBEKAH FITCH}. Matching Winehouse-esque vocals with bluesy melodies, Rebekah's lyrics tell intriguing stories with power and ingenuity. She is certainly one to watch.
{LIBBY PATTISON} will be among the artists responding to the theme 'Years from Now', experimenting with ideas of modern identity, branding and politics.
{SOFYA GREBENKINA}, a 'sometime-writer', will be performing some exquisite poetry on the night. In her own words, she prefers poetry over prose and laughter over tears, but her poetry is seldom about either.
Influenced by abstract artists, {GRACE IFERE} will present colourful, imaginative works inspired by people or places.
The first poet of the evening, {HARRIET HAUGVIK} will deliver work on love and its legacy in the modern age, inspired by folk ballads and Classical motifs.
Delicate guitar melodies embroidering a warm voice which brings powerfully sincere lyrics to life - what to expect from Norfolk musician {SOHAM DE}.
{KEZIAH BASKERVILLE-MUSCUTT} will present powerful works inspired by memory and ancestry, based on old family photo graphs.
Musician and poet {MO HAFEEZ} will perform work discussing society and personal change as intersecting with spirituality, inspired by the poetry of Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac.
Sweet and soulful, {JASMINE WILKINSON} captures the the innocence and vulnerability of her observatory lyrics through her haunting voice and gentle guitar melodies.
Digital artist {ELLEN COLEMAN} focuses on the story more than the art itself through simple shapes and colours. Her work explores moments and feelings experienced throughout summer.
Canadian artist {EMILY JEFFERS} will explore representations of ruralism versus urbanism in material culture through her writing and visual art.
{Sam Harrison} has been taking photos for most of his life but has only made it a key interest of his for a few years. Although photographing parties make up the majority of his work, travel photography and photojournalism remain the dream career.
